Tan Pit Wall

Further update with regard to the Tan Pit Wall issue

Posted by: admin

We have had some success with SMBC Engineers with regard to the coping stones to be laid on top of the new Tan Pit Retaining Wall.

After many emails and telephone calls, and on the very day the castellated copings were delivered to site, a telephone call was received from a Senior SMBC Engineer.

The gist of the call was that after due consideration it has been decided that the finish to the top of the wall will be changed to half round copings which will better match the walling higher up Longhurst Lane in the area of Cataract Bridge.

This work is due to start sometime in January

It was also agreed that the Mellor Society will be informed about any future schemes of this nature, prior to commencement, so that comment can be gathered and passed on to SMBC Engineers.

It is an unfortunate fact of life that some works carried out by Highways Engineers are not subject to planning regulation and therefore consultation with local residents is not a requirement. Hopefully we now have in place an agreement that, on a voluntary basis, some consultation will take place particularly where the rural visual amenity is at stake.
